Summary
PvP and PvE Rework
Dune: Awakening is shifting towards a "PvE-first" model to accommodate the 80% of players who focus on non-combat content. The most significant change is the separation of the Deep Desert into two distinct instance types: a pure PvE instance with no player combat and a high-stakes PvP instance. To incentivize the risk of PvP, resource yields in those zones are increased by 2.5x. Additionally, Hagga Basin will no longer feature PvP zones on official worlds.
Self-Hosted Servers
Funcom has announced that self-hosting is coming to the Public Test Client. This feature allows players to run their own servers with custom rules for resource rates, building limits, and item durability. While the initial setup is technical—requiring Windows Pro and Hyper-V—it offers a path for private communities to tailor their Arrakis experience.
