Summary

Diplomacy Overhaul

This update significantly expands the role of Messengers. Players can now dispatch them from the world screen to handle complex diplomatic tasks such as negotiating peace, declaring war, and establishing trade relations with multiple civilizations. Notably, you can now initiate trade with Humans and Elves earlier than usual through proactive diplomacy.

Performance & Stability

Several key optimizations target late-game performance, specifically regarding pathing. Zombies now remain dormant until disturbed, and the game will throttle creatures that repeatedly fail to find a path, reducing CPU strain. Additionally, the update includes fixes for corrupted musical instruments and map saving exceptions.

20th Anniversary & Future Content

As Dwarf Fortress celebrates its 20th anniversary, the developers have revealed a new logo featuring Armok. Looking ahead, the 'Dinosaur' update is confirmed as the next major content drop, with work continuing on the highly anticipated 'Myth and Magic' expansion.
